A Good Book For Reading:
One book I have recently read is called Mao's Last Dancer.
This book tells of Li, a son of a poor farmer, who grows up in harsh conditions, but with a happy simple life in a small village in China. Spending many years of his childhood in his village, he is overjoyed when he is selected by Madame Mao (Wife of "Chairman" Mao, the dictator of China) to join a ballet academy in Beijing. This is a huge opportunity for a poor village boy, and it is a big honor for the family. He has many adventures in Beijing, but will he be able to stand the pain, torture, and strictness of the academy for Chairman Mao and become a loyal communist follower, or fall prey to the "filthy capitalist America", whose people are barely surviving under corrupt rule. This heartwarming tale will give you the perspective of a village boy who just wants to become a loyal "Red Guard" of communism, but ends up seeing past that to a much bigger, and brighter future.
